In this territory, the millenary historical stratification brought to the construction of different buildings in every age, which were representing at best, the architectural peculiarities of their period.
The most important and significant building of the Middle ages is the Priori Palace in Volterra, built between 1208 and 1257, which is the most ancient palace in Tuscany. The first noble palaces were built in the Renaissance, that spread in this area starting from the end of the 15th century.
